10 Tips to help you move into your student property

  1. Ensure everyone in your group has returned all required tenancy documentation and paid the rent and deposit in full
  2. Check and confirm you have the landlords or student letting agent details
  3. Set an appointment with the letting agent or landlord to collect keys
  4. Agree with the letting agent or landlord whether your group will be staying, storing or going home over the summer
  5. Once you arrive at the property take an inventory and notify your letting agent or landlord of any repairs are needed. If your property is managed by Student Haus you can report this directly through our website.
  6. Take meter readings (even if you do not pay for the bills! You don’t want to be charged for the previous tenants bills)
  7. Contact the Council to notify them you are the new tenant and apply for council tax exemption (where applicable)
  8. Contact tvlicensing.co.uk to pay for a TV licence or to apply for an exemption
  9. Draw up a cleaning rota at the beginning of the tenancy to save a lot of arguments
  10. If you have not already done so you should consider taking out contents insurance for your personal belongings
