Changes to Mandatory Licensing in Stoke-on-Trent

If you own a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) of 5 or more bedrooms then you will be affected by the changes to mandatory licencing. Landlords in Stoke-on-Trent who will be affected have HMOs which meet the following criteria:

  • The property has 5 or more tenants
  • The tenants form 2 or more households
  • The tenants share some basic facilities such as a kitchen or bathroom

Please ensure you apply for the relevant licence through the City of Stoke on Trent Council to eliminate a Financial Penalty. If you are part of the Landlord Accreditation Scheme you are entitled to a discount.

The property will need to meet HMO fire safety standards as set out in the Lacors Fire Safety Guide.
