It’s that time of the year where graduates are getting their final exam and final degree results. There are many students who will be proud recipients of 1st class or 2.1 degrees and there will be others who will be getting a 2.2 degree. But does it really matter?
For some getting a 2.2 can be disappointing.
However, it’s important to remember University is only the beginning of your professional career. Just because you received a 2:2 as your final degree result does not mean you won’t achieve success after graduation. It might simply mean you haven’t yet found an area you are truly passionate enough about to give it your all, it could mean you had to juggle a job to support yourself whilst at University and therefore had less time to focus on your studies, or many other reasons.
If you are looking for a career that does not take into consideration your degree, background, age or gender why not start your own business after university? This will allow you to take your future into your own hands. Starting your own business also does not mean you need to re-invent the wheel and create the next Facebook to be a success. You can start small with something you are passionate about or have some experience in. Maybe you were known for throwing the best parties at University – you could set up your own events company targeting student events. Maybe you were known as someone very fashionable at University – you could set up your own blog or personal shopping service helping other students find their style (on a budget).
