Students Moving Into Accommodation – What To Pack?

Moving into student accommodation is a massive moment in a student’s life. Moving away from home for the first time is exciting and a little daunting, so making the process as easy as possible is advised. At Student Haus, we are delighted to say that we have helped many students move into accommodation, and we are always happy to offer guidance and advice. You may be focused on your studies, meeting new friends and the local nightlife but knowing what to pack when moving into accommodation is essential information for students.

It is important that you know what the accommodation has to offer. Not every student accommodation is the same and not every student has the same needs. It is therefore impossible to provide a list which will cater for every student moving into accommodation because no two needs are the same. However, there are many aspects that students should bear in mind when packing before their big move.

Travel light if you can when moving to student accommodation

It makes sense to travel light. There is a strong chance that you will not have much space in your new accommodation, but you want to pack efficiently. There is also the fact that you will more than likely be moving out in less than a year, so you want to make that process as simple as possible too. As a quick guide, consider packing:

* A large suitcase of clothes

* A few boxes of other belongings

* A bin-liner of bedding

This is a fantastic starting point for packing when moving into student accommodation. There will be some students who are appealed at the thought of a suitcase holding enough clothes for a year while other students may consider this to be far too extravagant. So, think about your own needs and start packing from there.

There is no need to spend a lot of money on items like stationery, kettles, duvet covers and even furniture if you must add these items. It is likely that you will only need the items for a year and there is not a lot of expectation on items in a student home lasting for too long. There are many online stores and big brand names which offer affordable yet usable appliances and items that will be more than sufficient for student accommodation.

Make sure that you can study in your student accommodation

Another aspect that you need to consider is how you will study. A laptop is likely to be an essential component for the modern student, so make sure you have this item and any necessary accessories associated with it, such as a bag or stand. Students with a specialist course may need equipment for their studies, so bear this in mind too.

Moving into accommodation is a hugely exciting time for students, but with some minor planning, it is possible to take the stress out of the moving process.
